Decimating Smash is his biggest damage and he slams it the instant you're airborne, so time your W onto it: its tenacity shrugs off the knock-up.

Punish W on cooldown

Trade when Soul Furnace (W) is down: that shield eats a massive chunk of your damage, so wait it out, then stack Grasp on him.

Deny the good death

Kill him only when no wave is nearby: a 'good death' lets his passive clear the wave and TP back, and Garen can't run TP to match it.

Never trade into his W: Soul Furnace absorbs a huge amount of damage, especially against Garen.
